Hello, I'm Elise, founder of The Prints Academy. My journey into the prints business began out of necessity. I hit one of the lowest points of my life ten years ago. My dad, my hero, had been involved in a car accident. We were emotionally traumatised. It shook my whole world that the man who had loved and protected me all of my life was now a different person with a brain injury, depression, anxiety and excruciating pain everyday. I remember hearing his cries of pain in A&E whilst we waited in the family room, not knowing if my dad was going to live or die.
From that moment on, I had a fire in me to help my parents, to support them like they always had me, to make them proud and to make a difference in the world.
At the time I was a social worker in a very stressful job, and I just knew I had more to give. I wanted to get my message out to the world after realising that life was so short, too short to sit back and watch it pass you by working a 9-5 that you hate. I have always known I was put on this earth to make a difference.
I knew I had what it took, but I needed to figure out what exactly it was that I wanted to share with the world. How could I make a difference? I tried A LOT of things to figure it out. I must have been coming up with a new business idea every other day but why was it never happening for me? Everything I tried just didn’t seem to work. I’d start something, so passionate and so full of energy, thinking THIS was it, this was the idea that was going to work. I’d work solidly for a couple of weeks, bursting with excitement and wanting to spend every minute working on it. Then before long, I’d convince myself that this wasn’t working. I’d find myself browsing social media, looking for the next idea, the next big thing. I’d get inspired by something else and the cycle would start again.
Then, around 2 years ago, I finally found the missing piece of the puzzle, and it was through a life experience that to date has been the hardest thing I have ever had to go through.
I’ve always dreamed of having my own family but dating never seemed to work out for me. I would cry every time something didn’t work out, knowing I had so much love to give but nobody to give it too. That was until I started working on myself through self development work and practicing the law of attraction and manifestation. Before I knew it, I met the love of my life.
He is kind, caring and supports me in everything I do. He believes in me and encourages me every day. Everything I had dreamed of started coming true. I could not believe this was finally happening for me. Everything I had ever wanted.
We got engaged, we bought our first home, we got a rescue puppy and everything was blissful. We began thinking about starting a family with both of us so excited to become parents. But then disaster struck - it’s hard for me to even write this. I thought my dad being run over was the hardest thing I had ever faced, but in October 2022 I received a devastating phone call from the man I love.
He had taken a call from his consultant, and what they said terrified him. We had to wait 4 weeks to actually speak to somebody about the brief information that had been shared with us on the phone. When we finally got to that appointment, we were told news that changed the course of our life forever. The man I had waited my whole life for, had kidney failure. He needed a kidney transplant, and he was going to have to start dialysis.
We were numb. I remember walking back into the waiting room having to wait to see another doctor. The room was full of people and there was nowhere to hide. We sat down, and we sobbed. It felt like everything was ripped away from us that day. I’m not sure I have ever felt fear like it. The worst part is that there is no respite from that. It is with you every day. I don’t know from one day to the next how much longer we have together. I don’t know if we will have children or if we do, will he be around to watch them grow up? Can you imagine needing to go to the hospital three times a week for 5-6 hours at a time and being hooked up to a machine that cleans your blood? Can you imagine the pain he is in every day? How unwell he feels and yet he never ceases to amaze me in his sheer strength.
The reason I am telling you this story is because this experience could have destroyed us, but we decided together, to turn our adversity into something positive. I turned all of the fear, heartache, stress, anger and everything in between into motivation. I found strength in throwing myself into self development work and the law of attraction; it has helped me through some of the darkest days. It’s helped me stay positive and get out of bed despite what we face every single day.
All of that self discovery work led to me finally finding what my passion was; the message I wanted to share with the world. Ironically that message was helping other people find their passion and that is when The Prints Academy was born. I’d successfully run a prints business after my dads accident and financially it really helped us, so I knew I had the knowledge to do this.
